Blank Makes is a happy hub for makers. A place to share ideas and inspiration for DIY projects. We also love to host creative gatherings - a celebration of making and connection with kindred creative spirits.

Hello! My name is Danie (pronounced Dani, but for some reason the 'e' has always stayed!). I am so pleased to have you here at Blank Makes. I love sharing creative ideas and inspiring others to make. Most of all I love connecting with other like minded souls in the creative community. I hope you will enjoy this creative space and maybe one day we can meet in real life at one of our creative gatherings!

The History behind Blank Makes

Blank Makes was formerly Blank Goods. In 2011 the online craft supplies store, Blank Goods, was launched. Five amazing years were spent building my dream business - a toolbox of designer paper goods and DIY craft supplies. The simple but inspiring range of products were essentially 'blank' - enabling you to customise and create just the way you like. What we loved most was to share projects and ideas on how to use our supplies.

We also loved the wonderful Blank Goods community, especially meeting our customers at Design Markets as well as chatting to fellow entrepreneurs who shared the highs and lows of running a small business. This is where I truly discovered the joy of connecting to kindred creative spirits.

In 2016 I closed the Blank Goods online store. Basically the business was not making money and I was exhausted. I decided to focus more on my true passion - to create. The business of manufacturing and retail is a continuous steep learning curve, crazy hours and hard work which left me little time for what I love (and need!) most. It was time for me to get back to a more creative life, making things, designing, photography, cooking and of course time with my family and friends.

And now here is Blank Makes! A place for creating, sharing and connecting I hope you will enjoy!

A bit more about me

I have a home studio in Melbourne, Australia and still adjusting to working from home!

I live with my husband Martin, two girls, Lucy and Alice and our moustached cat Mojo! We love going out for breakkies, The South Melbourne Market, Swiss cheese fondue, making super fun parties, DIY craft, dreaming of returning to Japan for a holiday and occasional rock n roll dancing in our lounge room!

My background is graphic design where I often combine my love of food and design. I have worked with Penguin Books designing cook books, and many small foodie businesses creating branding and packaging.

I now enjoy a hearty mix of graphic design, craft, cooking, family and friends!
